Challenge at hand
The university did not have a standardized, effective process for submissions of manuscripts. The author, editors, and reviewers had to go through a lengthy review process, and there was little clarity regarding publication in specific editions of journals. Given the manual nature of the process, it lacked efficiency and transparency.
TechVariable developed an automated Journal Management system that resulted in improved efficiency and transparency. The authors now can view all feedback and revise their manuscripts through the portal, making the process efficient.
It also allows for a closed-loop feedback system between authors, editors, and reviewers. Author information is hidden from editors, and reviewers and their feedback are also anonymous. Authors can use the portal as evidence that their manuscript has been accepted, even if it is not published in a particular journal edition. These features helped the university bring in transparency in the process.
The author could submit his/her manuscript in a prescribed format within the portal. A unique journal ID used to get created, enabling tracking and resubmission.
The submitted manuscript was reviewed by an appropriate subject matter expert and either sent for resubmission with important notes to consider or accepted and rated.
Once the confirmation of acceptance was received from the reviewer by the admin, the journal was sent back to the student with a preview of how the published paper would look.
